November Public Talk – Plants of the Limestone Barrens

November 15, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The limestone barrens are a unique habitat in this province that occurs on the west coast of Newfoundland. They extend from Boutte du Cap on the Port au Port Peninsula to Burnt Cape and Cape Norman near the tip of the Northern Peninsula. They are a marvel of plant diversity and are host to three endemic species, Barrens Willow, Long’s Braya and Ferenald’s Braya. Gene will talk about some of the relatively easily accessed limestone sites and about the plants that grow there.

After more than forty years as a Professor of Biochemistry at MUN, Gene Herzberg retired a year ago. This has given him more time to spend exploring and photographing the flora and fauna of Newfoundland.

Gene’s photographs can be seen on Flickr, Instagram @slowoldman123, and on Newfoundland Canvas
