NATURE NL OCTOBER TALKS

Twice a year Nature NL collaborates with The Rooms to present talks on aspects of local Natural History. These talks replace our regular third Thursday society talks. These talks will take place in the Lecture Theatre on the second floor of The Rooms.

 

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 16 at 7 p.m.

 

PROTECTING SHARKS: Testing our commitment to marine stewardship by Mr. Fred Winsor (Sierra Club)
Mr. Winsor will talk about shark populations in the waters off Newfoundland and Labrador, and the importance of large marine protected areas.

 

THURSDAY OCTOBER 17 at 2:30 p.m.

 

SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY IN NEWFOUNDLAND: shifting from industrial to community-based management by Dr. Ian Goudie (Forest Science Coordinator for the local chapter of Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society)

Dr. Goudie will speak on the role of communities in sustainable forestry in Newfoundland.
