Check out this letter by NatureNL Member Nick White who writes about the importance of protected areas and highlights the positive aspects they can bring for nature conservation and the communities that surround them. This is in support of the protected areas plan that was released in May for the Island of Newfoundland🌲

The deadline for the first feedback period of the plan is October 1st! ⏰ Less than 2 days away! ⏰ Make sure your voice is heard and submit letters and feedback for the plan by emailing werac@gov.nl.ca or by going to the engagenl.ca website and complete the short survey!

Join Nature NL for a butterfly workshop on September 24th at 7:30 pm!

We will learn about butterfly & caterpillar identification and learn more about what butterflies are doing as the weather is starting to cool down.
This workshop with cover new material from our previous workshop and everyone is welcome to join.

From September 14-21, we will be launching a BackyardBio Blitz with @ebtsoyp.

How to participate??

📸Snap photos of local flora and fauna
🐝Post them on social media/iNaturalist and tag us and @ebtsoyp using the #BackyardBio
OR
🐟Post your findings directly to the BackyardBio iNaturalist group

✨✨There will be a free online event the week following the blitz to discuss our findings including a giveaway for a lucky participant!!! ✨✨

Have you ever wanted to try birdwatching but weren’t sure where to start? Do you find yourself wishing you could get a closer look at the winged wonders above your head?

Now, all you need to do is stop by your local library and borrow a Birdwatching Backpack kit! Inside you’ll find everything you need to get started: binoculars, a field guide to bird identification, tips for beginners, and a list of birdwatching hotspots. Kids backpacks are packed with extra birdwatching activities, bird-themed picture books, and kid-friendly binoculars.

Nature NL is very excited to be launching this project in partnership with the Newfoundland & Labrador Public Library and with support from NL Hydro and the Outfitters.
