In October 2015, Nature NL members headed to what is known as the “Northeast Coast” (not the Northeast Avalon!) near Musgrave Harbour for an autumn weekend of delicious berries, beautiful coastal sights, and of course nature and birds. We were generously hosted by the Montevecchis, who shared their knowledge of this beautiful area. Our hikes explored the sand dunes, which are ecologically sensitive areas home to many species of nesting shorebirds. Due to the nature of this small group trip and limited accomodations in the area, the trip was advertised only to members (exclusive trips like these are another great reason to join Nature NL!).
One of the highlights of the weekend was an impressive 40 species of birds sighted, including a juvenile Indigo Bunting and 23 Red Crossbills. With outstanding views, fresh air, and delicious food and wine, this was an unbeatable outdoor experience and we’re happy to finally be posting photos to share!
