The Gulf of St. Lawrence is truly unique among the world’s estuaries. This small inland sea, seven times smaller than the Gulf of Mexico yet richer in biodiversity, is exceptional in many ways. Its complex currents carry nutrient-rich waters deep in the continent, feeding fragile ecosystems; numerous whale species including the blue, sperm, fin and humpback come each year to feed on the gulf’s bounty; world-class bird colonies and salmon rivers all depend on the health of this vast ecosystem. Yet, this unique and fragile ecosystem is threatened by looming oil and gas exploration.
In the company of our guest lecturers, you will learn about the uniqueness and importance of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, but also of the risks posed by oil and gas exploration. Drilling projects are presently on the table and various environmental assessment processes allow communities, groups or individuals to express their views and concerns. Learn how you can add your voice to protect the unique Gulf of St. Lawrence.
