Happy #BirdFactFriday! 🐦 Did you know that col Happy #BirdFactFriday! 🐦 Did you know that collisions with windows in residential and commercial buildings kill over 25 million birds in Canada each year? Even more surprising, A lot of these collisions happen at homes. Here are some simple ways you can help prevent bird window strikes at home: 🔹 Make windows visible
Use commercial bird-safe products, window decals, tape patterns, or window screens. Decals work best when they’re large, visible, and placed on the outside of the glass. 🔹 Turn off lights at night
Especially during migration seasons, reducing nighttime lighting helps prevent birds from becoming disoriented. 🔹 Place feeders & bird baths safely
Keep them within 1 m / 3 ft of windows so birds can’t build up enough speed to be seriously injured if they strike the glass. 🔹 Try Acopian BirdSavers (“zen curtains”)
These closely spaced cords hang in front of windows and act like tape or decals. 🔹 Use washable window paint
A fun and temporary solution that can be especially helpful during migration. Small changes can make a big difference for birds! This media is part of our Birding Without Barriers program, supported by NatureHood, a @naturecanada_ initiative.
Last week, Executive Director, Steph, participate Last week, Executive Director, Steph, participated in an in-person Environmental NGO Roundtable Discussion on Nature. This valuable forum brought together local nature-focused ENGO leaders to engage with Federal Minister Julie Dabrusin during her visit to Newfoundland and Labrador. The roundtable was facilitated by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), Atlantic Region. The discussion focused on conserving nature and exploring ways to ensure ecosystems across the province continue to thrive for generations to come. We value opportunities to collaborate with fellow ENGOs and strengthen our working relationships in support of shared conservation goals. #Nature #ENGO #Conservation #Wildlife #naturalspaces

Check this out! We have been sent a FoodCycler  Check this out! We have been sent a FoodCycler for our office from @thefoodcycler! The FoodCycler® is a revolutionary food scrap recycler machine that transforms organic waste into a dry, nutrient-rich by-product that can be used for gardening.    Here in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador we have to be our own stewards of food waste. This is a great option for composting at home!   With typical composters we are limited to what we can compost, but with #FoodCycler technology you can add meat, fish, poultry, poultry & fish bones, and shellfish (including shells). These food scraps are typically avoided with traditional composters.   FoodCycler® has teamed up with municipalities creating subsidized Pricing, where residents typically pay a fraction of the retail price. You can purchase this unit from your municipality directly. You can currently purchase the FoodCycler at a subsidized rate from the Town of Gander. You must be a resident of Gander to avail of this discounted rate.   If this is a program you would like to see within your municipality we highly encourage you to write your representatives!   Learn more about the FoodCycler® here: https://foodcycler.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooQ6iPo0hCu-gcI689-SgaIgUUWfBYmQ9FkMq4WS1NBk_Nn4-gf @thefoodcycler
